Perfect weather for a long run down the canal!
After discovering the canal a few days ago when I was on my own, I though it would be a nice idea to do our long run and go right to the end of the towpath at Brimscombe Port. So nice to find an interesting new route that neither of us had been on before.
So labels on and off we went!
Quite a flat route for most of the way. Down to the end of the cycle path at Ryeford near Stonehouse, and onto the canal towpath towards Stroud. For some of the way this path has the Stroudwater Canal on one side and the small River Frome on the other, so lots of water and wildlife!
We carried on along the towpath through Stroud, under Cainscross and Dr Newton's Way and then came to a halt! Lovely photo opportunity though underneath the huge arches at the old railway viaduct!
Memorial plaques next to the arches.
Found our way over the road and carried on along the canal towpath parallel to towards Bowbridge, Thrupp and Brimscombe.
Beautiful views across to Rodborough Common.
Very surprised to see some Lamas along the way!
Then the hard slog of climbing up the hill to the top of Minchinhampton Common! This was the most gruelling part - but all down hill towards home from here! We ran across the common towards Amberley, and then followed the road back through Theescombe, and Watledge.
Nearly home!
Well we managed just over a half marathon distance today, and I didn't even need my gel thing in my (not so new) trainers!
