Bristol Half Marathon with the boys!

Complete with Mickey Mouse bag (always easily detectable from the bag drop!)

First blog post to record our fundraising journey towards the Brecon to Cardiff Ultra next February. Running with both Rory and Saul today! Saul's first time running the half in Bristol.

After managing to get around two lorries and a slow moving tractor on the A46 (typical!) the traffic was absolute chaos on the way in to the centre! This is the fourth year that I've taken part in either the 10k (last year) or Half Marathon and I've never known traffic like it. Luckily I found a parking space straight away around Cotham Road South where I always park but was still half an hour late to meet Saul there. Plenty of time though to walk down to the start at Millennium Square to meet Rory before he was off in the earlier wave. Good job I left home early!

The weather was beautiful but very warm for running so I wasn't planning to get any pb's today. Great atmosphere as always.

Mine and Saul's wave didn't start until just before 11.00am and it got hotter and hotter! Wasn't sure whether I was going to make it this time. Could have done with a couple more water stations due to the hot conditions but managed to get to the end. Quite a few people didn't unfortunately, especially towards the end.

Got to the end - no pb but third in my new age category which I'm really pleased with for such a massive event. Crowds were amazing. So much cheering, support and encouragement - felt a bit emotional as I got closer to the finish!

Rory was pleased with his time and Saul said he enjoyed it despite the hot conditions.

Found him in the water surrounded by curious toddlers (and parents) cooling off.

Lunch with a pint at Wetherspoons by the harbour. Then a long, slow, humid walk to Old Market (Rory said it would only take 20 mins!) to meet others and get a free pint at the tap room if we showed our medals.

Bus back to the Bear Pit (Cabot's Circus) and a very steep walk up through the BRI back to the car, then home.

Hot, tiring but a fantastic day! Will definitely be back once again next year.
