A lovely day with a very creative group of ladies in the village of Oaksey, near Malmesbury in Wiltshire!
The main focus of the workshop was working with sublimation paints and dyes (heat transfer) using an iron, rather than an expensive press, to transfer designs onto polyester. We began at 10.00am and finished at 4.00pm. A long, but very productive day.
The first stage was to work on paper. Various techniques and other resources were used including was resist, salt, rock salt, clingfilm and stencils. The main concern was making sure that the paper dried quickly so we had several hair dryers on the go!
A short break for lunch and the designs were ironed onto a variety of polyester fabrics and lace.
The final stage was to arrange the different prints by cutting, collaging (using bond-a-web) or sewing the pieces together. I brought along a sewing machine as well to encourage the group to try free-machining which proved to be very popular.
A great day. Can't wait to organise the next workshop!
Details of future workshops will be on my website at www.suebatemantextiles.com.
